Before the rain

A couple of photos taken on Friday just before dusk, I should have known better than try to photograph Swifts after low cloud came in.

Wee birds mostly from Ferryden, Montrose

Nearly all in the same patch of scrub near the start of the track to Scurdie Ness Lighthouse. The light had gone but steadying the camera on a fence post helped get some photos of small birds in shady places. I've been to a few of them in my time.

Catch up after a bit of wandering near and far (for me)

Not a Goshawk as I thought, maybe hoped but a Sparrowhawk. Heard in woodland then seen hunting along a hillside in north Perthshire on a very hot and humid day while I was looking for a Whinchat which I did get eventually when I saw one while driving near Calvine!

Sparrowhawk (not butch enough for Goshawk, wings too rounded)

More new life and ongoing nesting

More signs of successful breeding and ongoing attempts, shame only one Buzzard chick but given the pair's nest site had been destroyed by quarrying they've done well to have one well grown chick at their new site.

Buzzard chick

House Martin, the first time in 30 years they've nested on my neighbour's house in full view from my window.
